SERVING OPPORTUNITIES

Paula Niz | Missions Coordinator | pniz@fmhouston.com

God changes our lives when we follow Him and partner with Him in His work.

We not only take Him but we find Him when we step out and serve others.

“For we are God’s co-workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.”

1 Corinthians 3:9

Below are some of the current serving opportunities, both local and/or global.

Please contact us with any questions and/or concerns.

LOCAL SERVING OPPORTUNITIES

The following are a list of available volunteer opportunities

Neighbors in Action

Tutoring

The Children’s Ministry would love volunteers to help literacy at Port Houston Elementary once a week (you must be there at least once a month). This is a full school year commitment in order to effectively help kids who are struggling with literacy improve in this area, and to build relationships. Tutors are needed for 1st-5th graders in reading and math, from 3-4 PM every Wednesday.

Bible Study Leaders, Assistants, and Drivers

NIA needs volunteers who can teach, people who can assist, and people who can drive the van and pick up children/teens for the following Bible Studies:

·         Mondays from 5:45 – 7:30 for children ages 4 to 2nd grade

·         Tuesdays from 5:45 – 7:30 for children 3rd through 5th grade

·         Wednesdays from 6:30 – 8:00 for Middle School

·         Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:00 for High School

·         Friday Worship Nights from 5:45 – 7:30pm for ages 4 through 11

Meal Donations

Meals are needed for our Monday through Friday weekly Bible studies.

Sunday Van Drivers

NIA needs van drivers who can take NIA teens to First Methodist Houston Downtown on Sunday mornings and back to Port Houston after church. Pick-up is at 9 AM and drop off is after the 11 AM service.

The following volunteer opportunities need a regular commitment of at least once a month.

Prayer Volunteers

Pray for the children and families of Port Houston. Pray that God would be present, and pray that the people of Port Houston would be strengthened, encouraged and comforted by His presence.

Lifeline

to the Homeless

Refugee Ministry

Volunteer to serve in our Refugee Ministry

Wednesday Nights from 5:30pm-7:00 PM.

There are several ways to be involved with refugees through First Methodist. One is to pray for our refugee families, and the global refugee crisis. In addition, we can use our voices to advocate for refugees – advocate for our city to absorb more refugees, and advocate for the rights of those living here.

Use your voice to create change by visiting the World Relief site. Or, get involved with our Wednesday night tutoring program, where we love on kids and build relationships through tutoring and educational activities.

Volunteers are needed to serve our students in homework help, tutoring, and to aid our elementary students with literacy skills.
