LIFELINE

Lifeline to the Homeless is an extension ministry of First Methodist Houston. Our outreach to the homeless caters to the transient population living primarily in the downtown area. Lifeline meets the basic needs of our clients by providing food and clothing with kindness, love, and dignity. We truly want to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus. In addition to meeting basic needs, we also provide Metro bus cards for written appointments, specific job-related clothing, and referrals to other agencies. Lifeline wants to help clients that need the extra boost to get back on their feet.

Lifeline gives out about 120 sack lunches per week and invests $3,000 a month on food and water for our sack lunches. Our clients may visit us on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9 a.m. We give out between 6 to 8 bags of groceries per week and grocery bags are available once per month. We service both men and women, but 95% of our clients are men. Our volunteers greet clients with a smile at the client desk, pray and minister to them, make sack lunches, sort and organize donations, and mentor.

The ministry is in most need of donations. The greatest needs are men’s clothing, personal care products and food. We encourage donations on an ongoing basis, but we take one Sunday a month to focus on Lifeline during our First Sunday Food & Supply drive.
